Types of Disability Benefits For Children

There are several ways in which one can receive disability benefits for children. Children of disabled or retired parents can be eligible to collect Social Security or Social Security Income (SSI) benefits if they meet any of the following conditions:

1.Low-income children who are disabled. Disabled children of low income families are eligible to collect Social Security Income (SSI) benefits until they reach the age of 18.

2.Children unqualified for SSI. If a child is younger than age 18, or is a 19-year-old full-time student, has a parent who is receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD), they may be able to collect benefits as a dependent.

3.Adults who have been disabled since childhood. If an individual became disabled before the age of 22, they can collect disability benefits if one or both of their parents receives SSD or SSI.
